nabeel
the who: (he/him) is a freelance theatre and film director specializing in the development of new works and the re-staging of classic texts. he is a first generation american, born and raised in new jersey. he loves soccer, formula one, good movies, and his dog.
the what: nabeel’s process (across any art form) centers around “building at the speed of trust” a phrase originating from the work of adrienne maree brown. essentially: careful, intentional work is healthier, richer, and more truthful for the audience. he loves creating work that centers people of the global majority.
the why: the way a story is told is incredibly important. the stories we tell ourselves, the stories we write down as history, and the stories we program for public art are incredibly influential markers of how our society grows. nabeel is committed to responsible storytelling that pushes the boundaries of those who engage in it.
the where/when: nabeel graduated with honors from bucknell university in 2023. his work there earned him a fellowship from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, and his thesis film was selected for the Sparking Creativity Showcase at the the Museum of the Moving Image. he has recently worked alongside Vivid Stage, Red Bull Theatre, the Cellunova New Works Festival, The Eugene O’Neill Theatre Center, and the TANK.
